After
unpacking and freshening up, we are due to have lunch with a local guy that Adrian had become friends with whilst over here on business, Ricky. He meets us at the hotel with this other guy called KK whom I didn’t catch where he fitted into the picture
and, as he didn’t speak much English (i.e. none) and I can't speak much Mandarin, I couldn’t ask him.
We head to the
Hou Hai area for some food – some local Chinese stuff which was really
tasty (except the tofu) and they were trying to get me to say ‘delicious’ in Mandarin
– ‘好吃 hao chi’ (pronounced ‘how shr’) loudly, but I was suspicious
that my pronunciation would be saying something inappropriate.
Later, via my office colleague translation services, I find that in fact I was saying “Great shit”.
Bastards.
