Not Raffles

I clearly needed the rest as I woke at about 10 - just in time to get the breakfast; after which I head out to the morning market (after being turned away from the Baba Nyonya museum for being too early!) which seems to consist of load of sellers with lots of 1970s and 80s paraphernalia, and cheesy vinyl records (though I did spot Rumours, so not that cheesy) and a very different atmosphere to the market the night before – you’d hardly think they were the same place.

The Baba Nyonya museum (they let me in awhen I turned up at the right time) was quite interesting, and the Chinese woman doing the tour was amusing – very serious sounding and to the point whilst giving the commentary, but would finish each monologue with a joke, or a quip, that you were not expecting.

Not Raffles
After the museum tour I head out for a walk about the town again, but I guess unless I wanted to head out of town in the car,  I had pretty much seen most of the town that was worth seeing, and after a quick trip to get some pineapple tart sweets for Charles in this supermarket (where I was chatting to this UK couple who were paranoid about malaria and mosquitoes) and a stop at the Chinese temple, I head for lunch.  I very nearly broke my neck when I was snapping away at this old hotel called Raffles and thinking how very different it was from the famous Singaporean hotel with the same name, I didn’t realise that the pavement ended and I didn’t.

After a really nice (but probably a bit excessive) lunch in the Peranakan Restaurant (recommended by Charles) of ayam redang cili (delicious fried chicken with chilli) and fish noodles, I check out of the hotel and make my way home.
