It's been at least three days since I applied on line for a Maybank account, and I am determined to complete the opening of an account so I head down to the Mont Kiara branch - at the very least if only to cause havoc and a scene in the branch due to their ridiculousness by inventing new obstacles and hoops for me to jump through.
All this to get a fucking savings account and ATM card! I am probably one of the first people in the bank, and when I approach the receptionist (not 憶雯 Gertrude) she smiles and then gives me a ticket to get in line to be seen. I have ticket number 6004 and they are seeing
…wait for it
…number 1026.
Unbelievable!
Luckily for me it was the beginning digits (6) that determined which set of clerks you needed to see, and as mine was New Accounts, I was actually seen next, luckily for them.
Armed with all my proof of who I was, where I lived etc (though I would find it hard to explain why I didn't look like the description on the online application form (6 foot 5 Buddhist), I was all prepared to start ranting at them, but 钟思慧 (Linda) just said that everything was in order and the account was open, handed over my new bank card and welcomed me to Maybank.
That was after she spent about 10 minutes explaining how to report my card stolen when I get robbed. But it was OK if I got robbed, because with Maybank you need to use a PIN number and sometimes a signature, so access to my account would be difficult and my money was safe.
Oh OK then.
